New diesel engines from the BMW concern to the debut are ready
As promised, the BMW concern successfully coped with the task of expanding the line of diesel engines, and mastered the release of a new M-model equipped with three turbochargers. The novelty is designed for models from the Merfomance series, consisting of the BMW 5 Series sedan and two crossovers – BMW X5 and BMW X6. The official premiere of the series is expected in March, during the traditional Geneva car dealership.
New engine – new principles of work
The basis for creating a new diesel engine was a three -liter in -line “six”, with a capacity of 381 horsepower. Only now, in this, which has become a classic engine for most BMW, another, additional, additional.
At the first stage, the launch of the new items occurs in the usual mode: small, close to the idle, turnover is quite appropriate at low speeds. Therefore, one compact turbine with low inertia is involved. But as soon as the revolutions increase to 1500/min, there is a gradual connection of a large turbine, which reaches its maximum at 2700 rpm.
In addition, after the opening of an additional channel supplies exhaust gases, the engine demonstrates the full power of its capabilities, activating the third turbine located in a special compartment of the bypass channel for additional air sealing before it is supplied to the combustion chamber.
What else can a new engine
Of considerable interest is the equipment of diesel novelty. Thanks to the introduction of the system of bypass valves, it became possible to regulate the supply of air in the turbochargers and a noticeable decrease in exhaust emissions. And thanks to Common Rail, the innovative fuel injection system provides low fuel consumption with high engine return.
It is also important that all M-series models are distinguished by an individual all-wheel drive system and a modified eight-speed gearbox.
The creators of the series are sure that the sound of m-models is quite consistent with their high status: the generation of engine sound is carried out not only through the general acoustic refinement, but also with the help of special technologies involving the audio system of the car.
In all likelihood, the diesel M-Novers of the BMW concern will enter the German market in the second half of May. Presumably, their cost will fluctuate within 85,800 euros.
