The ancient customs of matchmaking

November 13, 2024

In modern literature, you can find a lot of beliefs, traditions, superstitions associated with the wedding. This funny and very important holiday every couple of young people who marry people seeks to live according to the rules, observing all the canons and traditions.

All about the wedding, about wedding signs and much more related to this day, you can find on the Internet. Many traditions are lost or forgotten, but many to this day are clearly performed by both young and relatives of young.

What do we know about old weddings? How it happened in the old days? It all started with the fact that matchmakers with one simple intention came to the house to the future bride – for coming a girl. The closest relatives of the groom most often acted as a fiber and very rarely it was the parents of the young.

One curious fact: the bride, while they came to woo her, did not even have the right to even appear to the eyes. And if the groom himself came to the bride’s house, along with the fucking, the young girl (his possible future spouse) was not shown to him. The girl was seated in some kind of far room at home, her head was covered with a transparent light cloth. This was done so that suddenly one of the matchmakers does not see the girl’s face in the rooms inadvertently.

Thanks to this tradition, the girl was not very beautiful and even those who had a seal of ugliness on her face were given out. Poor grooms and their parents did not know whether the girl was beautiful, the young was picked up by prosperity in the farm of her parents and by the presence of a good dowry.

Only a relative (woman) from the groom was allowed to see the face of a young girl. If the bride was ugly, parents put a beautiful unmarried relative or sister of the bride, sometimes a pretty maid (if the family is rich and there is a maid) in a far room under the bedspread.

For the first time, the young groom could see the appearance of his bride only directly on the wedding day. After the matchmaking, the wedding came the photo captured young spouses who saw each other and met only at the wedding. So absolutely not familiar to each other a guy and a girl became a husband and wife for a lifetime.
