According to the English weekly Autocar, referring to the original sources at Jaguar-Land Rover, this British company is ready to produce a series of new front-wheel drive cars.
And the leadership of the company caused the causes of a purely economic nature to this. The case here is the new environmental requirements for vehicles that begin to operate on the territory of the European Union since 2020.
According to new environmental requirements, the release of carbon dioxide in new cars can be no more than 95 g/km. Whereas the most economical models of the jaguar company (for example, the future SUV XQ) give out at least 99 g/km. The European Union further plans to tighten the requirements for CO2 emissions, so Yaguar needs to look for suitable solutions.
According to expert opinion, the Jaguar concern will get out of the situation as follows. Firstly, it will create a new compact front-wheel drive version, which will create decent competition to Mercedes-Benz Cla and BMW 1 GT models. The next step can be the release of a front -wheel drive crossover with a shortened platform based on Range Rover Evoque. Given the current position in the market, the emergence of new products from Jaguar can be expected no earlier than 2016.
